For an assignment in my first year, I developed a game called Echo Labyrinth, where the player must navigate a pitch-black maze using a sonar ability that temporarily lights up nearby walls. Some tasks I had to do on the game include:
Designing and programming a game individually for the first time.

Restricting my game to featuring only one major mechanic, being the sonar ability. I had to design how to make the mechanic as effective as possible without adding separate features.
Using an engine (Clickteam Fusion 2.5) that I had little experience in to display my design as effectively as possible.

Working on Echo Labyrinth was a valuable experience for me. With it being the first game I individually designed and programmed, it was an important milestone to reach if I wanted to go on and pursue game design further. Some other ways the project helped me were:
Understanding how to problem-solve programming issues when something does not work as intended, such as by breaking down the problem into manageable chunks.

Being able to plan my own time and estimate how long aspects of the game should take to complete. I can then schedule regular milestones that coincide with my expectations of the project.
